The Prime Minister, this evening during a parliamentary sitting, announced that he met with the family of Daphne Caruana Galizia and their legal representatives over the public inquiry appointed by the Government related to the murder of Journalist. The Prime Minister revealed this earlier in Parliament in response questions raised by the Leader of the Opposition Dr. Adrian Delia in relation to recent reports which appeared on the Times of Malta.
Dr Muscat did not rule out that other meetings with their legal representatives might take place in the future.
During today’s Parliamentary meeting The Prime Minister, Dr Muscat said I can confirm that I met with the Caruana Galizia family and their legal representatives, I think there will be other meetings in the future and we will take it from there.
The Prime Minister said that he will not speculate about the information that may have been published about the case.
The Prime Minister explained that when we give such information about the ongoing investigations all we are doing is actually helping the person who might be under investigation because they will get to know what the police are doing, so the Prime Minister stated he will not be commenting on this.
When the Leader of the Opposition asked whether the Commissioner of Police intends to update the public about the ongoing investigation, the Prime Minister replied that he has his reservations about this due to the fact that any such briefings might end up jeopardizing the ongoing investigations.
